Visual Arts Students Selected for Priddy Charitable Trust Fellowships in Arts Leadership 2005-2006


Margo DeHoyos has a BFA degree from Washington University in St. Louis and since 2002 has been the art teacher at the Charles R. Drew Academy in the Aldine ISD in Houston. She has also studied at the Glassell School in Houston and at Texas Tech's Junction Program. She has been very involved in community activities related to her school and is an active, exhibiting sculptress.
 

Autumn Flores has a BA degree (Suma Cum Laude) from Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi and is currently working as the Art Slide Assistant at TAMU - Corpus Christi. She will pursue a graduate degree in art history in conjunction with the Priddy Fellowship.
 

Stacia Lynn Gower has a BA degree in Art Education and an MS degree in Art Education from St. Francis University, Ft. Wayne, Indiana. She has had a number of years of K-12 teaching experience and is currently an elementary art teacher and the Grant Coordinator for the Humble ISD in the Houston area. She has written a number of successful grants and has received a commendation for Outstanding Achievement by the Humble ISD.
 

James E. Roe has a BFA from UNT and worked in marketing, visual display, and merchandising (Neiman Marcus, Container Store, Whole Foods, and Majors Scientific Books) for a number of years before returning to school to earn certification in art. He has also exhibited his art work in a number of galleries and exhibitions. He will pursue the masters degree in art education in conjunction with the fellowship.
 

Lori Santos has a BA in art education from Bethany College and an MA in art education from Kansas University. She has taught art for several years in K-12 schools and is currently a Children's Program Coordinator and Associate Faculty member at Coconino Community College in Flagstaff, Arizona. She done extensive work with Native American art and has exhibited her art work extensively.
 

Music Students Selected for Priddy Charitable Trust Fellowships in Arts Leadership 2005-2006

Kyle Polite has AB degree from Dartmouth College in Music and Ancient Languages and is director of the Upper Valley Youth Winds. He is also serving as the AmeriCorps's VISTA to Dartmouth College, working with issues of anti-poverty and community advocacy. He will pursue the masters degree in musicology at UNT
   

April M. Ross graduated from the Interlochen Arts Academy and received a Bachelor of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music and a Master of Music degree from the San Francisco Conservatory, both in clarinet performance. While a student at the San Francisco Conservatory, she became involved in developing lecture / recitals for retirement homes and elementary and middle schools. She will pursue a doctoral degree in performance at UNT.
 
 

Michael Schwerin has a BA degree in mathematics and music from the University of Minnesota, Morris (UMM) and a Master of Music degree from the University of North Texas. With a commitment and desire to build the arts community and be an advocate for the arts, he was an administrative intern for the Concert Choir and Executive Board Chair of the Honors Program at UMM. He has also worked with the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science at UNT, helping the academy students build an awareness for the arts.
 
 

Heather Jan Steele has a B.Mus.Ed. degree from University Laval and a M.Mus.Ed degree from UNT. She has had nine years of K-12 teaching experience and is currently teaching at A'Takamul International School in Kuwait.
 

Scott Watkins has a B.M. degree from Northern Arizona University, an MAED degree from the University of Phoenix and is pursuing a Ph.D. in musicology at UNT. He is currently working in marketing and group sales for the Dallas Symphony
