Nancy Walkup, Interim Director


Nancy Walkup has taught art for over twenty eight years to students ranging from kindergarten to college in Louisiana and Texas. She is also the editor of SchoolArts Magazine, a publication committed to promoting excellence, advocacy, and professional support for educators in the visual arts since 1901.

From 1991 to 2001 Walkup served as a project coordinator at the North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts (NTIEVA), an art education institute at the University of North Texas in Denton. She is currently serving as interim director of NTIEVA and teaching Constructing Visual Arts Practice at UNT.

Walkup is also a contributing author for Explorations in Art, an elementary art curriculum published by Davis Publications with co-authors Marilyn Stewart, Eldon Katter, and Laura Chapman; and the co-author, with Pam Stephens, of Bridging the Curriculum through Art, and numerous other publications from Davis Publications, Crystal Productions, and CRIZMAC Cultural Materials.

Walkup’s accomplishments include numerous presentations at national and international conferences and venues. She has been awarded TAEA Outstanding Elementary Art Educator of the Year, 2010; CEDFA Cadre Art Teacher, 2010; NAEA Elementary Director Elect 2010; W.S. Ryan Teacher of the Year, 2007; TAEA Outstanding Art Educator of the Year, 2001; and TAEA Outstanding Art Educator Higher Education Division, 1997. She was recently elected as NAEA Elementary Director Elect.
